Introduction

This savory apple chicken skillet combines juicy seared chicken breasts with sweet apples, onions, and sage to create a perfect sweet-savory balance.

Ingredients

  • 600 g boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2 (300 g) apples (cored and sliced)
  • 1 (150 g) yellow onion (sliced)
  • 3 cloves (15 g) garlic cloves (minced)
  • 4 leaves (1 tsp) sage
  • 200 ml chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp (5 g) dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp (5 g) salt
  • 1/2 tsp (2 g) black pepper
  • 20 g unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) olive oil

Cooking Steps

Pat chicken breasts dry and season both sides with salt and black pepper.

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sear chicken for about 5 minutes per side until golden. Remove and set aside.

Add butter to the same skillet, sauté onion for 3 minutes until soft. Add garlic and sage, then add apples and cook 3–4 minutes until lightly caramelized.

Pour in chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard. Stir, then return chicken. Cover and simmer on low for 10–12 minutes until cooked through.

Uncover and simmer to slightly reduce sauce. Slice chicken and serve with apples and sauce.
